Difference Between Hypnosis and Meditation?

I often get asked what the difference in Meditation and Hypnosis is as they can be perceived to be sharing many of the same techniques. Both Hypnosis and Meditation use techniques such as breathing and visualization exercises i.e. Progressive Muscle relaxation or creative visualization (such as imagining you are floating on a cloud). So what is the difference really?

The aim of meditation is to still ones thought. If a conscious thought enters the mind, the aim is to find a way of making them disappear. This can be achieved through focusing on your breath or perhaps doing a mantra.

Hypnotherapy is aimed at a specific therapeutic outcome. This might be achieving your ideal weight, to quit smoking or to improve your performance. At the beginning of a hypnotherapy session, the hypnotherapist may use some meditation-like techniques in order to quiet down the conscious part of the mind.  The aim is to quieten the conscious mind so that the subconscious part of the mind can be accessed with some therapeutic suggestions.

So at the start of either a Meditation Session or Hypnotherapy session you might be lead into a very relaxed state through a guided visualization but as a Hypnotherapy session continues you will receive suggestions for the therapeutic change to the subconscious mind.

A good hypnotherapist will use imagery and metaphor in order to best communicate with the subconscious mind, to facilitate effective change. It is the subconscious part of the mind that is responsible for how we act; our personal drives and habits are initiated from here.

As you continue a Meditation you simply receive the benefit from quieting your mind. The mind, just like the body, works better when allowed adequate rest. Meditation is an excellent way to give the mind a break, so that it can work more efficiently.

Both Hypnosis and Meditation can both be used as an effective personal growth and development tool and is an amazing tool for achieving ultimate wellness.

Hypnosis gives you more guidance and can be used for a specific therapeutic outcome and is often combined with other Coaching tools to achieve the desired outcome.

The Aspire Wellness Retreat Weekend, April 2016

The third aspire WELLNESS RETREAT in Pennyroyal was held on the 29th of April to the 1st of May.
This was a weekend full of Wellness Activities and gave the participants a chance to connect, relax, work out their future goals, give them a kickstart to healthy living, eat amazing food, experience Hypnosis, and they had a choice of massage and reiki and going for walks in the the tranquil setting of the Otways or just simply just Be.

The participants were amazing and they all loved getting together with Like Minded People.
All of the participants experienced being more Joyful at the end of the retreat compared to when they first came to attend. That is truly amazing!

During these three days, my aim was to get people to connect and to have lots of fun and time for themselves. And of course, get a kickstart to perhaps a healthier way of living.

You can check out the video above and lots more photos and videos are yet to come.

We already have bookings for the next retreat which is held on the 14 – 16th of October 2016.

Yours in Wellness,
